Ethiopia Airlines flight crashes en route to Kenya

An Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 passenger jet heading to Nairobi, Kenya from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia has crashed with 157 passengers on board.

Details emanating from the Ethiopian Prime Minister office said that the plane crashed six minutes after takeoff and 31 miles from Addis Ababa.

The Prime Minister’s office said on Twitter: “The office of the PM, on behalf of government and people of Ethiopia, would like to express it’s deepest condolences to the families that have lost their loved ones on Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 on regular scheduled flight to Nairobi, Kenya this morning.”

Flight ET 302 crashed near the town of Bishoftu. There were 149 passengers and eight crew members. In a communique by Ethiopian Airlines, it stated that “search and rescue operations are in progress and we have no confirmed information about survivors or any possible casualties”.
